In addition, the new logo uses the already familiar orange and white color scheme. The name of the operating system is still black. Until 2022, all characters were lowercase, but after minor changes, the first “U” was converted to uppercase. Letter spacing is balanced for maximum legibility. The most noticeable change was the addition of a tall, orange, vertical rectangle that featured a familiar ring with circles at the bottom. The designers preserved the font featured in the previous logo but made the strokes thinner and capitalized the first letter. It’s the third time the Circle of Friends logo. The thickness of all strokes is the same. 2022 Today The company logo was given a fresh look. Paul Hill 14:46 EDT Hot 23 Canonical has shown off a new Ubuntu logo in time for the next Long-Term Support update due in April. The designers created rounded sans-serif glyphs and tried to make them as symmetrical as possible so that each had the same line shape. The Ubuntu wordmark font was custom designed. After all, the word “ubuntu” means the South African ideology, which is based on the principles of mutual respect, humanity, openness, and love for others. Abstract people holding hands represent the name of the operating system. The symbolism of the emblem has not changed. The quadrangular shape is more dynamic and complex, and in combination with the ring, it creates a contrast of geometric shapes. And now, this element is not in the center of the orange circle but the lower half of the vertical rectangle. As for the Circle of Friends, in the form of a ring of three arcuate lines with dots, it has been moved to the left side. The font looks the same as before only the first “U” is capitalized. After the redesign, the name of the Linux-based operating system was on the right. The new Ubuntu logo was created by the same person who created the previous version: Marcus Haslam, one of the leading employees of the British company Canonical. The color scheme is bright: the debut logo uses yellow, red, and orange the current uses a rich orange. The new logo will make its appearance in the 22.04 LTS release of Ubuntu slated for April. In both versions, the text portion contains lowercase letters. However, the new logo design makes more sense, as heads ( the three-circle dots ) are facing each other and are connected more intimately. Earlier the logo could be described as a huddle because it was a powerful and emotive representation of the interdependency that Ubuntu has as a community-developed OS. Word of the new work is nestled inside of the latest Design and Web team summary blog post. Earlier it was viewed as people holding hands, but in the new logo it appears more like linking human hands – just as an embrace. By Joey Sneddon Updated 15 July 2021 Comment A ‘major rebranding effort’ is underway at Canonical and it could result in substantial changes to the logos, icons, and colours we currently associate with Ubuntu. According to omg! Ubuntu, the striking thing that one may find in the logo is the CoF no longer is on the edge of the circle but is now on the circle. But according to the Ubuntu team, it signifies a lot of what Ubuntu stands for. One may find the new logo a bit odd as compared to the older one. Now in 2022, the design of the logo has been updated from a “huddle” representation to a more powerful embrace. Since then, a lot has changed about the contributing community and the Ubuntu users. Ubuntu’s logo has remained unchanged since 2010 when it was last redesigned. In the same vein, Ubuntu too had designed a logo, which stood for Circle of Friends (CoF). The logo of any brand defines how users will be associating themselves with the brand. It also helps in visually communicating with the users about what the distro stands for. The logo helps in building a brand and gives identity to a particular distro. Every Linux distro is associated with its unique logo. An important factor towards increased adoption and popularity of Linux has been its “Free OS” tag. Despite that, the adoption of Linux-based distros such as Fedora or Ubuntu has been increasing day by day. But still, many feel that it needs some sort of technical learning curve to adapt to the Linux environment. From the servers in data centers to personal desktops or laptops, Linux has become more common to the people around.
